Japedo and Sahara - Incredibly Mellow Siblings
Adopted by a single woman whose life has been changed by having these two loving kitties!

This bio was prepared by the current owner who is doing everything right and even taking action without waiting for it to be a crisis, usually those are most common cases we get.

Japedo and Sahara are brother and sister, born in the same litter 12 years ago. They are very quiet kitties with an occasional meow here and there. Sahara can be a little shy at first, but when she comes around all she wants to do is cuddle. Japedo usually is the bold kitty that will approach first with curiosity. Both will nestle up next to you on the couch and just hangout. When sitting behind someone, Japedo will sometimes need that persons back, without front claws it feels like a mesage. They lived with a dog for eight years. All three of them got along great and lived together in harmony. Whoever adopts these black beauties will have two great kitties that will bring joy too your life. The Twins are low maintenance and only ask to be loved. Their meals are very important to them and they will let you know if you are late feeding them too. When sleeping, they almost always will be rite next to each other touching. They have lived in 3 houses and have always been indoor cats. Japedo does get curious about the outside and will walk over to an open door to see whats out there. They both love laying in front of a sun filled window too. Japedo and Sahara have brought my family and I a lot of joy over the last 12 years and we will miss them very much.

Happy - Purrfect Gentleman Senior Chap

Happy is one of three cats abandoned by someone whe felt ok about leaving her cats behind placing them at risk for being homeless. Fortunately she contacted us to help find homes. He was the first adopted but we still have Oliver and Miss Kitty who need homes. Please see Available Cats page.

Hope - 3 Legged Kitten and Chee

Hope was found wobbling outside a womans home. Like her sibling now named Chee, she was brought in. We were contacted and helped both get vetted. She is now in a home absolutely thriviing and very very happy. Congrats to Hope and her new furever family. Chee found a home with two single men with a primary owner and he has come out of his feardy shy phase and has taken over the home! Way to go Chee!

Serenity & Bruno -  FIV+ Lovebirds - Off the Island of Misfit Toys Together

Here?s a story that Walt Disney movies are made of. This is the journey of Bruno and Serenity, two FIV+ adorable kitties who found each other and have not let go since. This might even remind one of the Island of Misfit Toys, straight out of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer classic, at times.

Originating from Upstate NY, both of these cats were once owned pets with their own forever home and folks to call their own. But around the same time in late 2014, both of them found themselves homeless. This was due to no fault of their own and when you read more you will believe that to be true.

Another thing that is not their fault is having the FIV virus. You can read all about it on Lifeline Adoptions website. Another time and place these two beautiful cats would have been killed. But cats like these two used to be routinely and immediately executed. Society doesn?t ?euthanize? healthy, adoptable pets, we execute them, and this is wrong.

Both Bruno and Serenity found themselves scared, confused and feeling alone and utterly unwanted (but well cared for) in small cages at the Chemung County SPCA. Like being FIV+, being there was not their fault but became their strength. To the shelters credit, an animal sanctuary in the region was contacted and agreed to take them. No one knew they were infected with the FIV virus until they were brought into that SPCA. They both entered the shelter in January 2015, although separately.

They had never seen each other before the day they met but perhaps there is no better definition of love at first site. From the first moments they met and sniffed each other, they became instant friends! During their months at the sanctuary, they were inseparable. They groomed each other, snuggled and slept against each other and played with each other. They even had their own version of lover?s lane. Let?s call it Cat?s Alley. The sanctuary has fenced in areas outside the rooms that cats can go out and play and enjoy the sun and sights and smells. Well these two had a daily ritual of going out there, but only together. If one was there, you could count on the other being there.

Since the sanctuary was seeing so many FIV+ cats living so long and being healthy, largely due to low stress, wet food diets and lots of love from staff and volunteers, they decided to begin to home as many of these previously defined ?unadoptable? cats, and are hoping to eventually close the FIV room. This is a trend that was not expected and we are so glad to be able to be supportive of this and also acting in unison with them whereby we strive to place FIV cats in homes that might not have a decent chance otherwise.

READ WHY FIV+ CATS ARE SO ADOPTABLE HERE

Having already taken cats from the shelter and placed them, they reached out to us to see if we could take both of them. It took some time and planning but we met a shelter volunteer in Syracuse one Sunday and picked up Serenity and Bruno.

Both of these kitties are absolutely the sweetest creatures you can imagine meeting. Bruno is a real character. He had put on some excess pounds at the shelter (starting a diet in foster care) as it is impossible to feed one cat separately especially with Serenity being his buddy. He doesn?t know he is heavy and just jumps right in your lap, or on tables and desks or running up a six foot ladder to sit on the top. Ladder since put away for his safety. Serenity is her namesake. She is extremely mellow, laid back and affectionate. She adores being brushed and loves playing with little toy mice and chasing a string. Bruno loves chasing laser light and even chip/meows at the light. Very funny to watch.

They interact in very sweet ways. When one has their claws clipped, the other rubs against them. They always want to know where each other is. Bruno is more adventurous, a real go getter. He loves to sit in windows, climb on things, sit on laps and is very playful. Serenity lives up to her namesake. She is extremely docile, sweet and mellow. She adores being brushed and laying against you afterwards. She enjoys sitting and watching things happening around her. She has a diesel type purr and a soft little meow. Bruno doesn't speak much at all. These two cats are extremely well mannered and are zero trouble at all.

Of course they will be adopted together as it is their destiny to be together and we know they will be happier and more content and at peace. Both add a gorgeous little twist to your day in how they behave and the cute things they do. Please consider giving these two a chance to continue to beat the odds and live many happy joyful years together.

SERENITY AND BRUNO FOUND A GREAT FOREVER HOME WITH A  WONDERFUL WOMAN WHO ADORES THEM AND IS TAKING GREAT CARE OF THEM. WAY TO GO YOU TWO FABULOUS AND CHARMING KITTIES!

Buddy - Handome Transplant From Long Island

FIV+ and Healthy!

Hello all! My name is Buddy. I want to tell you my story so you know how special I am and how brave I am too. I am also very loved and you will learn why when you read the rest of my story.

My cousin Bobtail was brought from Long Island NY to Rochester area last year by a wonderful loving woman who had been taking care of him while living as a stray. Like me, he could not come in because of the current resident cats. There was also no place who would help him. But after many months in foster, he found a great home with a total cat lover with a huge heart.

You see, like Bobtail, I am FIV+ which can make it harder for cats like me to find homes. I have learned that having FIV is just a virus that may some day make me susceptible to some illnesses. I should state that any cat can get sick without having FIV. In any case, with low stress, good diet and lots of love, there I a chance I could live out a long normal life. Read about FIV Here.

As for my story, like my cousin, I was brought here to Rochester because of LiFeline Adoptions that helped Bobtail and have adopted out many many FIV+ cats. They have instructed me to talk about all my qualities so that you see me, the cat, and not the virus. This is how they have found homes for so many other FIV+ cats. Read about FIV and How To Mandsfsfsfsfsfsfs

They have also developed relationships with about a dozen veterinary clinics to offer discounts for life if you adopt me and I ever do get sick some day. Over time it became clear that my dental issues were not gong away and would continue to be painful and keep bothering me so after two opinions, they gave me some anesthesia and I woke up with no teeth! Don't worry, I can eat fine and look just as cute as ever. This means I am free of tooth and gum disease forever!

Well, guess what?? I found an awesome furever home last week! Yep, it's true. I was in foster for many months with Lisa, boy I love her, and was even adopted by someone who had a situation- so I had to come back into foster. Larry had me for a few weeks until a really cool woman looking for a cat with a fabulous personality like mine, found me. She had fostered a kitty with thyroid and other problems and they told her about me. I went over to be her foster kittykid and she, of course, fell totally in love with me. I want to thank Linda in Long Island, and the folks up here who fostered me! I have never been so content and happy and am running around playing, exploring, sitting on window ledges and spending lot's of time on mom's lap

Lizzie (Formally Tweetie)

Tweete was found by a couple behind their home. We helped get her vetted and prepared and she was adopted into a home with several kitty siblings and a wonderful mom!

Willie and Nelson

Mr Bear - FIV+ Sweetie

Bear is young and has many good years ahead of him we are hoping with good nutrition, lots of love and affection and low stress. He is FIV+ and that means that maybe some day his immune system will be lowered. Even then, there are lots of good immune boosters being used these days and frankly, any illness an FIV+ cat can get, any cat can get.

Very recently, Lifeline Adoptions made the decision to have the vet restructure a section of his ear canal, thereby allowing the removal of a cyst and the maintenance of the area to keep other cysts from growing. The surgery has also caused a lazy third eyelid but that is transitional..He was constantly scratching at it during the treatment phase with creams, drop and so on. Yet he handled it all like a real trooper. He is healing very well now and seems much happier. This guy has been through so much we wanted him to have the best chance possible, and that he is just so sweet and love-able - he will make an awesome treasure of a companion to someone.

Bear was adopted by a great couple, two married men, who have a dog and two cats. They are giving him an amazing home where he has catpanions and lots of windows to look out of, and two men to love him! We wish the best for everyone and are very grateful to these two men!

HAZEL - FIV+ Adorable Lovemuffin

Hazel was found in a driveway by the daughter getting their mail. It was very hot and there were just a few holes in box. She used one of her 9-lives that day. Lucky for her, this is a wonderful and loving family, true pet lovers. She used the second one when she was taken to Lollypop by this very caring woman, Lisa. They told her she would be euthanized, what we call executed (adoptable cats are not euthanized) and she could not leave her there and brought her home!

With a little help from us, she rebounded nicely and became adopt ready thanks to Lisa fostering her so well. As it turns out, she fell totally in love with Hazel and even her resident female cat likes her. It was a family decision - keep her! Thanks to a well rounded and open minded thinking process governed by reason, Hazel is an example of how adoptable these kitties truly are.

JESSE - Senior Sweetie Boy

Jesse, almost 8 years old, was recently adopted into a wonderful family who were looking for an older cat to love and have as a companion. The adoption was very recent (March 24) and Jesse is adapting quite well for a cat who has only known one home and owner.

The family is taking it slow and letting him adjust at his pace and are following all the recommendations we make to help ensure the adjustment has the best chance for Jesse. They are also trying to help their 7 year old son learn responsibility and what it means to have a pet.

SUZY - Deaf Senior Thyroid Condition and Screamer

Suzy was orphaned after about 10 years with the same owner. Then this poor little sweetheart was abandoned and left a alone for 4 months with someone just feeding her once or twice daily. So just do math orphaned + left alone 4 months = serious abandonment issues and fear and anxiety due to being deaf as well. Can you imagine? As a result, she has developed a very loud howl, scream, if she gets scared being alone or alone too long. She meows and makes utterly adorable loud vocalizations as well.

Yet, despite that, Suzy is very gentle, loving and sweet, She is also a tiny little old lady at only 6lbs on a good day. She would be an incredible wonderful companion for someone as she just loves being with someone. THAT is her big need, just to be with someone as much as possible. And, despite her age of 12, maybe a little older, she has a rowdy side when she gets wound up and darts around a little and she also enjoys the Cat's Meow toy and chasing a string as well.

Suzy was adopted by a deaf woman who sought her out, being deaf. Unfortunately after 4 months she had to come back to us because she just could not get comfortable with the resident cat. We tried all our usual tricks. However, she was recently adopted by a family with a 12 year old girl and again we see another amazing and unexpected outcome - she has stopped her screaming, entirely!

Suzy's wait is over and she found what she as been hoping for - a full size house with a family and a special friend in the girl. We are so happy for her!

Named "Hope" now, Mr.Freckles, FIV+ was Adopted Jan 16th!

Umbro - Diabetic Declawed Mellow Fellow

In the spring of 2015 we were contacted by a vet's office about a cat who was left by it's "owner" to have him euthanized simply because he had developed diabetes. The vet located us online searching and asked if we could help. The whole office was in love with Umbro, a patient of theirs since he was a kitten. He is now 9. They starte him on insulin and we took him to our vet who prescribed Lantis, almost 300.00 per vial. With the vets help, we started him on it and began monitoring  his blood sugar levels. The insulin was effective but we wanted to try dietary changes. Soon after, his blood sugar levels went too low; his body was responding so well do better diet that the insulin took him too low. So he was weaned off the insulin - he became insulin free! He remained in foster until his adoption into a home with a diabetic family member and experience with a diabetic cat before his death a while ago. We are so happy for Yummy Ummy, our nickname for him, and the family who adopted him. He is a true miracle and a treasure of a cat.

After a few weeks we had another phone check in and Yummy Ummy is very content and seels happy where he is. He is receiving excellent love and care in his new home. Umbro has arrived!

Umbro - lower cat on tower with his new sister Grace!

Lucky - Senior Thrown Out Car Window
Lucky was thrown out of a moving car window, sick and immaciated. A kind wonderful woman who saw it went into the woods and grabbed him. She had him vetted and contacted us. He went into foster care and gained weight and got healthier. He was adopted by his foster mom who fell totally in love with him. So we lost a good foster home but he gained a permanent one. Lorie is very happy with him and they are extremely close. In fact, if a new person comes into her apartment, he get in front of her to "protect" her and let them know she is HIS! Many great years to the both of them and our thanks to all who helped really rescue Lucky. We were just a bridge, that's it.

Bobby (formerly Bobtail) FIV+ loverboy from Long Island

Bobtail, or now referred to as Bobby, is one of our best success stories! He moved here from Long Island, NY, with his amazing "rescue" owner who had been taking care of him for a long time. She has other special needs cats so could not have Bobtail come inside or adopt him but she refused to let the rescues in her area defeat Bobtail!

She brought this adorable and loveable little guy who had tested positive for FIV. So his caregiver did research and found us. After some time in foster care, a wonderful woman found him and adopted him

His story is just too long and detailed to lay out here but his caregiver stuck by him, found a rescue to help and even set up an account for his medical needs and special immune boosting supplements.

Bobtail took some time to adjust to his new home but over the months has made incredible progress. It is obvious this little sweetheart just wants to be safe, loved and feel like he belongs. Well he sure does and he is responding amazingly well for a cat who has never had his one furever home. We thank his caregiver and adopter for all the love, kindness and compassion to give this little kitty a good chance at a happy life. Currently he is bonding with his new persons kitties and with her and he continues to remind us what a little love, patience and kindness can do for a cat like him.

Amber - FIV polydactyl little honeybun!

Amber is another example of a wonderful kitty who needed someone to see her for a cat first who happens to have FIV. Read about it on other pages here. They can live long, healthy and normal lives with low stress, good nutrition and lots of love and affection. Amber was a transfer from a different city where stores didnt allow FIV+ cats to be shown even though there was zero chance of infecting another cat. Spayed or neutered cats mellow out and it takes a severely deep bit wound, usually ferals or strays fighting over food and mates and is actually hard to transmit.

Amber was adopted in a  home with another cat and she loved her foster brothers and did so well with them that with careful screening and adjustment, she will now have a happy content life with lots of love and affection. Already after only a days, she is almost completely adjusted and being a super diva princess.

Her new owner didn't want to just adopt a pet, she wanted to rescue a cat who really needed someone responsible and committed to step forward and help her. Well that person did and they are falling in love with Amber. How can you not she is so sweet and adorable.

CATIE - FIV+ 4YR OLD TOTAL LOVERGIRL MOM

This is Amber's mother, Catie, who is FIV+ too. Both were in Ohio shelter and rescue group scene. Neither were being given enough exposure and advocacy to find them a home, separate or together. Finally, Catie followed in Ambers footsteps and ended up being reunied being adopted by the same amazing adopter Tammy! Not only were they reunited, she is in a large wondeful home and also has a FIV+ brother to make clear to that although the third to arrive, she is the queen. Congrats to Catie and here's too many happy healthy years for her, and both new family!

                        Chancey - SnuggleSaurus FIV+ Loverboy

I was found in the middle of a road in a rural area after being struck by a car. I was loved by someone as a roaming stray but never got the care i needed. I also ended up FIV+ because i had fights with wild tomcats. But I have a happy wonderful ending and outcome to my stray story! I have been adopted by the wondeful soul who adopted my sister Amber before me. Can you imagine? I have a huge home to roam in and several people to love me. I am a real snugglepuss and i show my gratitude by cuddling and rubbing my head on my human's necks. I am cleaned up and look great now but this is how I looked early in the treatment phase. I look forward to many good happy years with my new family.

Update - OMG!  Now I have two sisters. Hmmm.My mom whose heart is enormous, decided to rescue and save another kitty with FIV. And as it turns out, it's Ambers mom who came from Ohio too and was in foster for a while. Read about her below!

                                  Reznor - AKA The Rezaroni

Jared and Jasmine - dynamic duo from Georgia

Artie and Binkie were living in a place where they were not cared for properly. While well meaning, their previous owner was getting very old and unable to take care of them. They did their best but were not as happy as they could be.

At age 11, they became displaced and were permanently being boarded in a local veterinarian’s office. Binkie was hiding in his cage, although able come out, he didn’t. Artie was out and about but you could see sadness in her eyes.

LiFeline Adoptions was asked to intervene. Binkie was put in a loving foster home and Artie stayed at the vet’s clinic. Binkie was so depressed but started to feel better, resuming grooming and some play too.

Then a wonderful angel named Jill who runs a pet sitting business found them online. She immediately wanted to adopt them. Very soon, they were reunited and settled in quickly. Binkie has resumed grooming himself and playing with all his toys. Artie enjoys cuddling with both her brother and new owner!

They continue to thrive in their new furever home!

Ruthie - wise and loving senior companion

BelleBelle - Cuddly Love Muffin from Georgia

ARTIE & BINKY - 11 YR OLD LATE LIFE ORPHANS

                              Mama - Sweetheart Senior Lass

Jayia and kaiden -  Senior Sibling Sisters 8 years old, one visually impaired.

Desiree - FIV+ Honeybun. Became Daisy

Daisy is one example of very sweet, loving and adorable FIV+ cats that LiFeline Adoptions was founded to help find a home for.

FIV+ cats have a potential immunosuppressant virus, similar to human HIV, but can only infect cats.

Often misunderstood and unwanted, these cats can live long, healthy and happy lives.

The ubiquitous ignorance and misinformation has caused many of these beautiful creatures to be executed at shelters because too few people advocate for, or understands, them adequately.

LiFeline Adoptions uses the term execution to bring attention to the fact of matter - that killing adoptable animals is not humane euthanizing. That is only done in cases where medically necessary or for other valid reasons, FIV not being among those.

FIV+ cats can also easily be co-mingled with non-FIV cats with a little careful assessment and proper adjustment techniques in households with non aggressive and indoor only cats. LiFeline Adoptions has adopted almost every one of their FIV cats into households with cats who are not infected with the virus.

There is also a treatment now available with extreme promise. While it has not stood the rigors of proper studies with adequate sampling measures and pertinent research methods that is currently underway. In the meantime, Lifeline Adoptions chooses to use this treatment in cases should the need present itself in the interest of offering some hope and a healthier cat, should they become sick with any FIV related illness.

Most importantly for FIV+ cats is to live in a low or stress free environment, be fed proper wet-food high quality diets and be given lots of love and affection. These are things any adopter can easily provide. Please consider an FIV+ cat to give a loving and nurturing home to. As with so many rescue animals, you will find that perhaps it is actually you who is being rescued when adopting one of these special cats.

                               SHERLOCK - TUXEDO EYE CANDY

LUNA - PRECIOUS 17 YEAR OLD GIRL

LiFeline Adoptions was founded to help cats who are sometimes considered disposable, or undesirable. This includes older cats.

Luna proves how important it is for cats, especially really old ones, to have a voice by being fostered and cared for until a new forever home is found. They desereve every day, week or month to live their lives out.

Luna adjusted immediately to her new home where she sponges love and affection from the young couple and their daughter.

She also became a mother figure to a second cat the family adopted and Luna is making them very happy while they provide a safe and nurturing home for her.

                              HENRY - WISE SWEET SENIOR

                                                     BEAMER

***We  have listed Beamer in this page since we are hoping he can be an example of how working with the current owners on trying different products and approaches can actually fix the problems, especially ones that are less severe. The owners are trying pheromone based products (calming collar and spray) as we have had tremendous success with these for our fosters and anxious placed cats.

                                   JAVIER - WHIPPERSNAPPER

Charlie - Deaf and Near Blind Hero

              CHASE - CEREBELLA HYPOPLASIA KITTEN

A rescue south or Rochester contacted LiFeline Adoptions to ask if we could help find Chase a home. He has Cerebella Hypoplasia.

This condition is an undeveloped Cerebellum in the brain that affects the cat’s coordination, ability to walk straight, jump, stand and get up and down.

However, to these cats it’s all that they know and is not painful at all. They just do the best they can and sometimes even compensate in other ways. Leave it to cats to be able to do that!

Chase was adopted the first day he was brought to an event by a great family from E. Rochester. His “differentness” is at first hard to see, but when you see him being happy, silly and getting attention, it is hard not to see his condition as special or adding a little character to him.

He is being doted on and is an otherwise healthy and fit cat. He seems to love his family, dog and cat siblings and being naughty like any other cat!

SNIFFY AKA SNIFF-SNIFF - Sharp Senior

(Sniffers was placed in the same home as Misty after adopter were so happy with their experience.)

Misty is a regular, non special needs girl that we were contacted to help due the owner passing away. Wonderful older couples contacted us and were already in love from the posting online. After a great vet screen and some phone chats, we placed Misty in their home. She reminded them of a cat they lost and she was not a replacement, but at testament, to the incredible cat they had a loved before. Misty immediately made herself at home and they called every day to share how happy and joyous the felt about her. But was something missing in the home still…?

The missing component was a second kitty, for Misty to play with and for them to double their joy. Sniffy was a LiFeline cat for almost six months, being passed over at our events and causing us to scratch our heads since we knew he is awesome and would make a great home. His former owners had to relocate to Australia and asked us to help find a home for Sniff and his sister Carmella. Both seniors at this point, they were not friends and she didn’t really want Sniff around anyhow. So we decided to find a great one-cat home for Carmella and find a home with a different kind of cat for Sniff. Then we called the couple who adopted Misty inviting them to try Sniff. They hadn’t had two cats before and decided they wanted to have two.

Sniff was placed with them and Misty. After a week of proper step by step introduction techniques, the two started on a friendship that would end up wowing even us. These two are best of friends, play and snuggle with each other and are inseparable! I love lying next to my family when they are working on their computers. And when they watch movies, I sit right with them. I need constant attention when they are home. I even sleep with them. I am an indoor cat.

  "LITTLE MISS MISTY" (Adoption Pending)

Meet Misty! She is a very kitteny cat who needs a home now. She is between 10-months and a year old and is very tiny and very sweet and playful. We have intereacted with many cats over the years and you will not find a sweeter, more affectionate cat.
Misty is now all spayed and vaccinated as well as de-flead, de-wormed, combo tested and microchipped. This little gem is completely read to go home!
If you want a kitten but want to know full personality and what you are getting, she is the one for you. Misty loves belly rubs, being brushed, held, petted and played with.  She rubs against you and gives head butts. She is not a talker for the most part so if you like quiet cats she is that. She does purr quite a bit though.
Come see her at events or call to inquire about her. She will not disappoint you!My name is Carmella. I am  a wise and wonderful lady. I’m the perfect cat for making your home look cozy.                   SOPHIE - HETEROCHROMATIC DEAF SWEETIE

Sophie is a gorgeous white cat with two different color eyes but is also deaf.

She was in a home where she felt a lot of stress and fear because of other pets and being deaf.

Her owners wanted better for her and contacted LiFeline Adoptions. Sophie was adopted into a home with an older couple where she is enjoying being queen of the roost and leading a leisurely and adored life.
